Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused the governors of Kwara and Imo states, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Hope Uzodinma, of working against him as political alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the allegation on Wednesday during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while reaffirming his commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The minister said some politicians were more interested in publicly demonstrating their loyalty to the President than in genuinely supporting his political agenda.
“You see, the problem with people, they want them to be seen, that they are the people working for the President. I don’t do that,” Wike said.
When asked if AbdulRazaq was among those he was referring to, the FCT minister answered in the affirmative.
Wike alleged that the Kwara governor had been at the forefront of what he described as a campaign against him.
According to the minister, AbdulRazaq had accused him of sponsoring political candidates in Kwara State, a claim Wike disputed.
“Take for example, Kwara, he has been the one championing this campaign against me everywhere. Yes, I have confronted him too. I don’t talk about what I cannot defend,” he said.
Wike also questioned the political implications of the removal of three senators and a member of the House of Representatives from the APC.
He argued that denying the affected politicians political space could push them towards opposition platforms such as the African Democratic Congress or the National Democratic Congress.
“Now, these senators you removed, you have no place for them. Therefore, do you prefer them to go to ADC or to go to NDC?” he asked.

The FCT minister said politicians who joined opposition platforms could eventually work against Tinubu, while those who aligned with him would be expected to support the President.
“Now, if they come to me, obviously, they will vote for Mr President,” Wike said.
He also denied allegations that he was deliberately installing political candidates across different states.
According to him, some governors had approached him over concerns about the Peoples Democratic Party fielding candidates in their states.
“I said, ‘Ah, in any case, did I reach any agreement that, look, now that we are supporting Mr President, PDP will not have any candidate anywhere?’” he said.
Wike also addressed his reported differences with Uzodinma, saying the Imo governor was fully aware of the political support he had received from him in the past.
“The governor of Imo State knows the support I gave to him very well,” Wike said.
Despite the disagreements, Wike maintained that his political priority remained the re-election of Tinubu.
He said his support for the President was not dependent on his relationships with individual APC governors, insisting that he would continue working towards Tinubu’s victory in 2027.
Wike has remained a member of the PDP while openly supporting Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling APC, a position that has placed him at odds with several opposition figures ahead of the 2027 election.
