The Idowu Adejumoke Senbanjo-led executive of Apapa Local Government Area has empowered over 100 indigent students in tertiary institutions with bursary awards.
Represented by his deputy, Ismail Ganiyu, Senbanjo said the distribution of bursary marks a significant milestone in the council’s efforts to support education and empower students as a testament of the SHEE Agenda as a government.
“As we present bursary awards to over 100 indigent students in tertiary institutions from Apapa Local Government, it is important to note that another 45 of you have been shortlisted for scholarship by one of our Shipping companies in Apapa, APM Terminals Ltd from the pool of the applicants for our Bursary scheme. This gesture is a testament to our commitment to education development and our desire to alleviate the financial burden on parents and guardians,” she said, adding that every student deserves access to quality education, regardless of their financial background.
She urged the beneficiaries to make the most of this opportunity.
“This bursary award is not just financial support, but also a vote of confidence in your abilities. We believe in you and your potential to excel. As you pursue your academic dreams, remember that you are not just representing yourselves, but also your families, your community, and your local government. We expect great things from you, and we are committed to supporting you every step of the way,” she said.
Miss Fareedat Okunade, a law student, on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the council for the financial support, saying it will go a long way to lessen their burden.
Special Adviser on Education, Youth and Sports, Dr Mike Egbayelo lauded the process of selection, saying it was done outside the local government, making it transparent.
