The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that it has expelled the senator representing Gombe South senatorial districts Sen Bulus Amos and the member representing Yamaltu Deba federal constituency Yunusa Abubakar for their failure to appear before a committee that was set up to investigate their involvement in alleged anti-party activities and working against the party during the 2023 general elections.

The publicity secretary of the party, Mr Moses Kyari, had in a statement that was issued on April 8, announced the suspension of the two lawmakers by their respective ward executives of the party over the said anti-party activities.

Briefing newsmen on Tuesday, in the Bambam community of Balanga Local Government Area (LGA) of Gombe State, the Chairman of APC in Bambam ward, Muhammad Kaka disclosed that the ward executives of the party had no option but to expel Senator Amos.

He explained that the expulsion of the senator became imperative following the failure of the senator to defend himself against allegations leveled against him and instead, he went ahead to issue threats to leaders and executives of the party at the ward level.

He said, “We held elections in our ward during the just concluded general elections and we have Sen. Amos from our ward who didn’t come out to partake in our political activities. Instead, the senator went around with his supporters telling them not to vote for the APC in his polling unit and the surrounding polling units and we (APC) end up losing, APC didn’t win any of those units because of his anti-party activities.

“This disturbed the executives at the ward and we sat down to examine this and decided to summon him to defend himself and explain why he did what he did,” the chairman said while explaining that even though the Senator appeared before the committee but could not explain his involvement, “we gave him another chance but he failed to return”.

According to him, the senator went ahead to threaten ward executives saying “We have no right to expel him from the party; this is wrong as no one is bigger than the party. It is because of this that we the executives at the ward decided to expel Sen. Amos from our party”.

Endorsing the expulsion of the senator, Ali Kachalla, chairman of APC, Balanga LG said the decision was for the good of the party, adding that in Gombe South, the APC in Balanga remains strong and united. He explained that with the action of the executives at Bambam ward, APC in the LG was now better positioned to rebuild the party better and to ensure future victories.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Lubo/Kinafa/Difa ward of Yamaltu/Deba LGA the APC has explained the expulsion of Mr Yunusa Abubakar, the member representing Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency.

According to the Secretary of the party at Lubo/Kinafa/Difa ward, Sama’ila Aliyu, the lawmaker had failed to appear before the committee set up to investigate his alleged anti-party activities.

Aliyu revealed that the executives extended an invitation to him to defend himself but Abubakar failed to appear before them. He said, “For all his anti-party activities and his inability to come and defend himself in the spirit of fair hearing and justice, it is clear that he engaged in anti-party and we all saw it. We the executives have decided to expel Abubakar from our party,” he said.

The APC in Gombe state has so far announced the expulsion of one serving member of the House of Representatives and two senators, including Sen. Muhammad Danjuma Goje, over allegations of anti-party activities during the just concluded General Elections.
