AI in Nigeria has unveiled plans for the third edition of its flagship conference, InnovateAI, scheduled to hold in Lagos in 2026 with the theme “Responsible AI Beyond Innovation.”
The conference is expected to be a key gathering that will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, innovators and the public to deliberate on the ethical, security and governance concerns surrounding artificial intelligence. According to co-convener Ehia Erhaboh, the focus of this edition reflects the urgency of embedding trust and accountability into AI systems as they become more entrenched in everyday life. “Innovation without trust and governance risks leaving people behind,” he said, adding that the platform will help Africa define its own AI future, one where ethics, inclusivity and safety guide progress.
InnovateAI has grown into one of the country’s most significant technology conferences in just two years. The inaugural edition in 2024, themed “Adapting AI for Nigeria,” drew more than 4,000 participants and spurred policy discussions on how the technology could be localized for national development. The 2025 edition, themed “Scaling AI Adoption in Nigeria,” expanded the audience to more than 6,000 people and reached 12 AI community hubs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. It explored the barriers to large-scale adoption, including skills gaps, limited access to data, and inadequate computing infrastructure.
Organizers at the 2026 edition will mark a strategic shift from discussions on adoption to addressing the deeper principles required for sustainable and trustworthy growth. The agenda will feature debates on governance frameworks for AI in Africa, the rise of deepfakes and fraud risks, trust in financial technology, the role of digital literacy in preparing citizens for the age of AI, and how to foster innovation responsibly without compromising safety.
Co-convener, Dotun Adeoye, described the upcoming conference as more than just a meeting of minds. “This is not just a conference, it’s a catalyst for shaping Africa’s digital future,” he said. “Our partners’ support is essential in building a more equitable, secure and prosperous AI ecosystem for Nigeria and beyond.”
AI in Nigeria is inviting companies, investors and development partners to support the conference through sponsorship and partnerships. Organizers argue that such collaborations will not only provide visibility for brands but will also help strengthen the continent’s AI ecosystem, drive digital literacy and encourage the responsible adoption of emerging technologies.
Founded by Adeoye and Erhaboh, AI in Nigeria has emerged as a driving force for artificial intelligence advocacy, connecting innovators, academics, policymakers and industry experts while promoting the localization of AI solutions for Nigeria’s diverse challenges. With InnovateAI 2026, the organization is seeking to position Nigeria not only as a hub for adoption but also as a thought leader in defining how Africa embraces AI responsibly.
