A panel of renowned fashion buffs put Africa’s beautiful fabrics and creative excellence on the world stage as they discussed the continent’s growing influence in the global fashion design industry.
The setting was the opening session of the 13th edition of the Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL), which kicked off on Friday at the Institute of Directors (IOD ) London with the UK Africa Trade Expo.
The event provided an opportunity for the expression of ways and strategies to move African fashion forward globally.
The last of the conferences for the day titled, Africa Fashion Guide: The Future of Fashion Sourced and Made in Africa, had panellists from different fashion sub-sector.
Founder of Africa Fashion Week London/Nigeria/Brazil, Queen Ronke Ademiluyi, presided as the panellists spoke about the face of African fashion, which touched a bit on storytelling about items of clothing, weaving, textiles mills, the production side of things and people who make the clothes. They emphasised the importance of using good materials, and working locally with women in the country.
The panellists also discussed the process of making the clothes so that they could be worn for a long time. Other relevant issues dealt with include manufacturing and retailing.
Panellists included Rebecca Osewa, Isatu Harrison, Janin Donzet, Adaku Parker and Jacquelne Shaw, who moderated the session.
The grand finale of 13th edition of AFWL will be the Royal Gala, a collaboration with Black History and Lifestyle Awards which will at the Pall Mall.
