No fewer than eight people are feared trapped after a two-storey building collapsed in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, in the early hours of Tuesday.
The building reportedly collapsed around 5:30am at PopoGiwa, Madalasi Zhogoro area, off Sijikobi Road in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, nursing mothers and children were among those believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.
Residents in the area raised the alarm following the collapse, prompting an immediate rescue operation at the scene.

Personnel of the Kwara State Fire Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other emergency responders have joined residents in efforts to locate and rescue those trapped.
Officials of the State Emergency Management Agency are also at the scene as the rescue operation continues.
The cause of the building collapse was not immediately known as of the time of filing this report.
Authorities are expected to provide further details on the number of people trapped, casualties and the circumstances surrounding the collapse as the rescue operation progresses.
