Nigerian business executive and social impact strategist, Dr. Ayo David Adeyemi, has spearheaded a major health sensitization and screening exercise aimed at improving healthcare awareness in local communities across Oyo State.
The first edition of the initiative, which took place in Ibadan, provided free health screenings, including blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, and body mass index (BMI) assessments. The event, organized in collaboration with the Red Cross UI detachment and other partners, saw a significant turnout of residents eager to benefit from the medical outreach.
Speaking on the impact of the program, Dr. Adeyemi expressed both surprise and concern over the level of healthcare neglect among some community members. “Despite my past experience dealing with local communities, I was amazed to still see some set of people who have NEVER in their lives checked their blood pressure, blood sugar level, body mass index, etc.,” he stated.
He further described the event as an eye-opener, emphasizing the joy and gratitude expressed by beneficiaries. “The happiness on their faces was really contagious as we gave them the best recommendations for a healthier life,” he added.
Dr. Adeyemi highlighted that the program exceeded expectations, attributing its success to collective efforts. “Beyond our expectations, the 1st Edition of Health Sensitization and Screening for Local Communities in Oyo went really well; all glory to God. Thanks to Red Cross UI detachment and all partners and supporters,” he acknowledged.
The health sensitization initiative is expected to continue in other communities, reinforcing the importance of preventive healthcare and wellness education in Nigeria.
