The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva has kick-started his campaigns with a promise to ensure priority is placed on human capital development, reversing infrastructure deficit, job creation and investment in agriculture.
Sylva, a former governor of the state and the immediate past Minister of State Petroleum who stated while on a campaign tour at Agbere, Ebedebiri and Sagbama communities in Sagbama Local Government Area, promised to resuscitate and complete the Shoreline protection which he embarked upon during his tenure as governor but which has been abandoned.
The former governor accompanied by his wife, Mrs Alayingi Sylva, his running mate, Joshua Maciver and wife Sarah Maciver, former deputy governor of the state, Rt Hon Peremobowei Ebebi, state party chairman Dr Dennis Otiotio, and other big wigs of the party declared that his administration would concentrate on human capital development in the state.
His words: “I consider myself an Agbere son and that is why I decided to begin my campaigns in the whole state in Agbere. A lot of things I have done for Agbere, the shore protection that has been abandoned will be completed.
“We don’t want you to be spectators to development, we want to bring development to you. My incoming government is about human capacity development. When I look around I see virile young men and women, people who need work, empowerment and development and government is about the people and is for the people and with you in mind that I am contesting.
“We have done it before, we are experienced, we know what to do, I was here before as governor, I was taken away and incubated and matured and now I am back, bigger and better.
“November 11 is not far, you must make up your mind vote for the APC, Agbere and Constituency 3 must be completely APC to vote back the good times, empowerment and a better future for yourselves and vote out this bad government of Douye Diri and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.”
Meanwhile the APC has re-assured Bayelsans of a landslide victory at the November 11, 2023 governorship elections and subsequent swearing in of its governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva on February 14, 2024.
The party in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Perry Tukuwei stated that the antics of the position to use the Court to dash the hopes of Bayelsans to have their preferred candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva as the next helmsman at Creek Haven by February 14, 2024, will fail.
Tukuwei noted that unlike in 2019 when the PDP and its candidate got the governorship through the backdoor, the 2023 governorship election would be decided by Bayelsans.
He reiterated that efforts to use the judiciary to scuttle APC from coasting home to victory will be futile as Bayelsans have decided to vote for competence.
