The founder and Chief Executive Officer of Making of Champions (MoC), Mr Bambo Akani, said yesterday that 2,056 athletes have successfully registered to participate in MTN Champs Season 3 in Benin.
He disclosed this during a media briefing to herald the three-day track events in Benin.
Mr Akani said that Season 1 of the competition was first held in Benin, where raw talents were discovered.
He added that some of the talented athletes discovered from the competitions so far are currently enjoying full scholarships in the United States.
He said that he is confident that these talented athletes who have been discovered will make the country proud, both locally and internationally, in athletics.
Speaking also, the Senior Manager of Sponsorship and Go To Market (GTM), Mr Osaze Ebueku, said MTN is the only organisation that has the ability to spot rough diamonds and refine them to become world champions.
He said they are happy to be in Benin again to hunt for more talents, which they will showcase to the world.
On his part, the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, represented by the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Mr Amadin Desmond Enabulele, said that his administration believes in the development of sports from the grassroots.
He said that, in demonstration of his love for grassroots sports, catching children young, and supporting MTN’s project, he has graciously approved the use of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and other logistics to ensure a successful event in the state.
