Yuletide: Gombe police activate security plan for festive season

The Gombe State Police Command has activated a comprehensive statewide security plan ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations to guarantee public safety and prevent criminal activity.

Commissioner of Police(CP) Umar Ahmed Chuso, announced the security activation during his maiden conference with Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Heads of Departments, where operational strategies for the festive period were reviewed and reinforced.

In  a statement , Gombe State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said , the plan prioritises intelligence-led policing, effective inter-unit coordination, increased visibility patrols, and rapid response to distress situations, particularly in high-traffic and high-risk locations. These include places of worship, markets, motor parks, recreational centres, and other public gathering points across the state.

CP Chuso directed senior officers to ensure strategic deployment of personnel and logistics to sustain a strong security presence before, during, and after the celebrations. He stressed that proactive policing and community collaboration would remain central to the Command’s operational approach.

The  CP, also issued a public safety advisory, urging residents to remain vigilant, limit unnecessary night movements, obey traffic regulations, and avoid reckless driving. He warned against the possession or display of dangerous weapons and encouraged prompt reporting of suspicious activities to security agencies.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment, CP Chuso assured residents of the  state of a peaceful and crime-free festive season, noting that the police would maintain round-the-clock surveillance and enforcement throughout the yuletide period.
