Unemployed youths in the country have lamented their inability to log on to the Federal Government’s portal for the registration of jobless persons, shortly after it was launched.
The platform, www.jobsforall.com, which was activated by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) on April 5, 2017, in a bid to keep a database of unemployed persons and job creation, had over 28,000 youths registered in less than 24 hours after it was opened.
Daily Sun gathered that the registration was in compliance with the third mandate of the NDE which requires it “to obtain and maintain a data bank on employment and vacancies in the country with a view to acting as a clearing house to link job seekers with vacancies in collaboration with other government agencies.”
An NDE source, who did not want to be named, described the deactivation of the platform as a setback to government’s drive to create more jobs for unemployed Nigerians.
Yohana Joel, an unemployed graduate of Microbiology in Abuja, said his attempts to log on to the site had not been fruitful in five weeks.
Another respondent, Chinenye Uwakwe, said her hope of getting a job through the site was dashed when she tried repeatedly but could not access the portal.
Daily Sun’s investigation revealed that the site may have been deactivated because of failure of the agency to pay the consultant managing it.
NDE Deputy Director, Information and Public Relations, Mr. Edmund Onwuliri, could not confirm this.
