Former governor of Sokoto State Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa has said that the need for youth to take over the governance of the North necessitated the creation of the Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative.
The Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative was launched a few weeks ago under the chairmanship of the former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, and Hajiya Naja’atu Mohammed.
Speaking with journalists at his Sokoto residence on Tuesday, Bafarawa said the movement is aimed at addressing the region’s pressing challenges and fostering unity.
He added that the initiative is designed to tackle the socio-economic issues and youth marginalisation that have long plagued northern Nigeria.

According to the chairman, the initiative is non-political, non-tribal, and non-religious, with the primary goal of uniting the diverse people of the North and promoting the region’s interests within the larger Nigerian framework.
“The Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative is built on the values of inclusivity and empowerment, with a particular focus on addressing the challenges facing our youth.”
“Despite being home to a large portion of the country’s population, the North has been disproportionately affected by these issues. It’s time for us to set aside our differences and unite in tackling these challenges.”
He emphasised that the alliance aims to transcend religious and ethnic divisions, offering a platform where all northerners, regardless of background, can collaborate for the collective good of the region.
As the movement gains momentum, many are hopeful that it will inspire similar initiatives across the country, creating a ripple effect of positive change that benefits all regions.
