Terrorism foreign creation to stain Muslims – Sheikh Gumi

Prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has described terrorism as a foreign creation designed to tarnish the image of Muslims, noting that Muslims are largely the victims of terror attacks.

The Kaduna-based cleric made the remark in a post on his Facebook page on Monday.

“Terrorism is a foreign creation to stain Muslims who are largely the victims of,” he said.

The Islamic cleric has in past commentaries argued that the global narrative around extremism unfairly profiles Muslims, despite data showing that Muslim-majority communities bear the brunt of insurgent violence, especially in Nigeria’s North West and North East geopolitical zones.

Gumi’s latest remarks come amid ongoing military operations against banditry and terrorism in the North East and North West under Operations Hadin Kai and Fansan Yamma.

The cleric has also previously called for dialogue, deradicalisation and improved socio-economic conditions as part of efforts to end insecurity in the region.
