Former Anambra State Governor and National Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has acknowledged that politicians and poor leadership are largely responsible for Nigeria’s persistent problem.
Obi made the remarks on Sunday while speaking at Koinonia Global, led by Apostle Joshua Selman, where he appealed to Nigerians to include political leaders in their prayers.
According to the former governor, Nigeria is not inherently defective, but has suffered from poor leadership and the misuse of public resources.
“We are the problem of the country. There’s nothing wrong with Nigeria. What is wrong in Nigeria is the leadership, the politicians God created in this country.”
Obi urged Nigerians to pray for political leaders to develop the willingness to put public resources to proper use and prioritise the welfare of citizens.
“Let God touch our hearts to use public money for public good. Let God touch us to stop stealing. That is why people are suffering here,” he said.
He argued that Nigeria possesses sufficient resources to significantly improve the living conditions of its citizens if the country’s wealth is properly managed and invested.

“If we use the wealth of this nation and invest it, it will go a long way. So remember us in your prayers,” Obi said.
The presidential candidate said his travels to different countries had convinced him that effective leadership was a major factor behind the progress recorded by nations.
“I’ve been to so many countries of the world. And I’ve seen things work in other nations. It is leadership,” he said.
Obi also appealed to Nigerians to avoid taking sides when praying for political leaders, urging them to pray for all politicians regardless of their political affiliations.
“Don’t say one is good, the other one is bad. All of us, remember all of us in your prayers, because the problem of the country can be solved. I assure you of that.”
He further acknowledged the role of the congregation in praying for the country and asked them to extend those prayers to politicians.
“The only thing I can ask all of you who are gathered here, because I know he’s praying for the country, is that you remember us, the politicians, in your prayers,” Obi said.
