A non-governmental organisation, Cece Yara Child Advocacy Centre, has unveiled plans to work on mental, psychological and physical health of child domestic workers in Lagos State.
Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Bisi Ajayi-Kayode, made the disclosure during a consultative workshop funded by the Freedom Fund, with the theme: ‘Strengthening Service Providers’ Ability to Identify, Assess, and Respond to the Mental Health, Physical Health, and Psychological Needs of Child Domestic Workers in Lagos State, held in Lagos for service providers to child domestic workers.
He stated that many children are engaged in domestic labour under conditions that expose them to emotional neglect, psychological trauma, exploitation, and in many case, abuse, which always leave them with scars that are not always visible.

“As service providers and frontline responders, your role in identifying, supporting, and protecting these children are invaluable. This workshop represents more than a meeting of minds—it is a collective commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the chance to grow up safe, supported, and emotionally healthy.
“I am particularly encouraged by the focus on mental health, an area that requires increased investment, capacity-building, and sensitive, trauma-informed approaches.
“At Cece Yara, our mission has always been to provide children with a trusted pathway to safety, justice, and healing. We stand firmly with you in strengthening referral systems, enhancing survivor-centred services, and advocating policies that prevent child domestic work and protect survivors from further harm.”
The Chief Operations Officer, Street Project Foundation, Eduvielawhe Olutimayin, also said: “We use the creative art and the performing art to engage young people, including children on dialogue. We’re partnering with Cece Yara Child Advocacy Centre to work on this project and I am happy we’re able to achieve our aim with this.”
