The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, has condemned escalating post-election violence and tragic loss of lives in parts of the state, describing the attacks as “a grave assault on the peace, heritage and democratic values” of Osun people.
This was conveyed in a Tuesday statement issued by his Special Adviser, Dr. Bolaji Akinola.
Daily Sun reports that there have been pockets of unrest in some parts of the state following the August 15 governorship election in which Governor Ademola Adeleke of Accord Party was re-elected.
Reports indicated the violence intensified on Monday with the killing of two people during a clash at the Naira and Kobo motor park in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of the state.
Oyetola, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said he was “deeply concerned by the escalating post-election violence and the tragic loss of lives across parts of Osun State”.
The minister stressed that “no political ambition, localised transition or commercial interest could ever justify the loss of human life,” urging stakeholders to reject violence and embrace dialogue.

“Politics must be a vehicle for development, not a catalyst for bloodshed,” he said.
Oyetola expressed his deepest condolences to the families of those killed in the violence.
He called on the Osun State Police Command and other security agencies to act decisively to restore order and protect residents, particularly in areas affected by the unrest.
He urged security agencies to deploy adequate personnel to volatile locations, reclaim public spaces from hoodlums, and ensure that all those responsible for the killings and other acts of violence are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.
The minister further appealed to residents across the state to prioritise peace and restraint, warning that “the progress and prosperity of Osun must not be sacrificed on the altar of political or commercial interests”.
Oyetola reaffirmed his commitment to the peace, security and development of Osun State, urging citizens to work together to preserve the state’s long-standing reputation for civility, enterprise and democratic values.
