White House addresses Trump hospitalisation rumours

The White House has publicly dismissed swirling rumours that Donald Trump was hospitalised at Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre, following an unusual absence from public engagements over the Easter weekend.

Speculation began on April 4, 2026, when Trump’s official schedule listed only “executive time,” and the White House later imposed a so-called “lid,” signalling that no further public appearances would take place that day.

The combination of limited visibility and the media lid led many social media users to suggest the president had been taken to Walter Reed for medical treatment.

The White House responded swiftly. Communications Director Steven Cheung took to X, asserting, “President Trump has been working nonstop in the White House and Oval Office.

“Online rumours of a hospitalisation are completely unfounded.”

The administration’s rapid-response account also mocked the claims, noting, “Deranged liberals cook up insane conspiracy theories when @POTUS goes 12 hours without speaking to the press. Fear not! President Trump literally never stops working.”

Officials highlighted visible signs that Trump remained active on the premises, including a Marine sentry posted at the West Wing, a traditional indicator that the president is present and on duty.

Despite the viral spread of speculation, there was no verifiable evidence that Trump had visited Walter Reed on April 4.

Photographs from outside the facility showed no presidential motorcade or unusual security measures, and press pool coverage confirmed the president remained at the White House.

Trump, 79, is the oldest US president in history, a fact that has made his health a recurring topic of public scrutiny.

Last year, the White House disclosed that Trump underwent advanced diagnostic tests, including MRI and CT scans, as part of preventative screenings, which returned “perfect” results.

Officials have also noted that his chronic venous insufficiency, a condition affecting blood flow in the legs, is not life-threatening.

This incident underscores the ongoing fascination with Trump’s health and activity levels, especially when he steps back from public appearances.

The White House has emphasised that despite limited visibility, the president continues to lead his administration and remains fully engaged in national affairs.
