When WEBIC ministers returned to classroom for spiritual growth

Taking a cue from the corporate world where serious organisations prioritise training and retraining of staff, ministers of World Evangelism Bible Church (WEBIC) returned to the classroom on July 16, to sharpen their spiritual skills.

They were obeying the directive of the Spiritual Head, who is also the Founder/General Overseer, Prophet (Dr.) Samson Ayorinde, to assemble once in a quarter to learn more  spirituality and leadership skills.

As early as 9am that Saturday morning, virtually all the ordained ministers from all the branches in Lagos State turned up at the Youth Church in the church’s headquarters for the event

Those in attendance were pastors, Sunday School teachers, prayer warriors and other leaders in the church. Coincidentally, the date of the seminar fell within WEBIC second half year fasting and prayer programme, meaning that the participants were fasting. The seminar was the third in the series this year.

Tagged, WEBIC national conference, it had the theme, ‘one fold, one shepherd.’ The event was kicked off by Prophet Ayorinde. He went down memory lane to tell participants how God gave him the vision to start the church. He said he was an atheist and a student of architecture at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State.

He said: “I had that audible noise in 1986 at ABU, saying go and preach my word. I got Gideon Bible and I started reading it.

“A Christain student friend whom I had resisted his preaching to convert me was surprised when he came into my room and met me reading the Bible. I told him I would like to be born again. He led me to accept Jesus.

“Few days later, I was speaking in tongues. I converted a Muslim student, who also went back home to convert his parents.”

Ayorinde said he had yet another encounter with God in 1992 when a voice told him to go on 40 days dry fasting. And he obeyed.

“On the 37th day of the marathon fasting, I passed out but God gave me the name of my church (WEBIC).I came down to Lagos in 1995. A year later, in 1996, God brought me to the present location at Ojota to build the auditorium,” he said.

Ayorinde told the participants that with the training they went through on July 16, he was preparing them for the restart of the crusade.

“Don’t be distracted. Stay focused, stay put. Distraction is inevitable. I was called to go into mass evangelism (crusade). I didn’t want to start a church, but God said I must. In obedience, we started World Evangelism Bible Church.”

Quoting John 15:1-7, he admonished the participants to abide in their calling. He urged them to avoid murmuring and dispute.

“Let us settle our differences amicably because the Lord is coming back soon,” he said.

The resource person for the training, Rev.Joseph Owoseni, spoke at length on the topic, ‘The Good Shepherd’. Quoting from Ezekiel 34 and John 10:11, he said a shepherd must be able to meet the needs of his sheep (flock).

Relying on the import of Ezekiel 34, Owoseni said God will remove and curse a shepherd who couldn’t keep his flock, adding that there were challenges the head of the church would face but he must not buckle under pressure.

He said God doesn’t joke with His flock. He said any shepherd who fails in his duty, the Almighty will replace him. He said there’s a lot of differences between a shepherd and hireling.

According to him, David was a good shepherd. God chose him to lead the people. And he led them to many victories. To shepherd, he said, “be a good embodiment to your sheep. Emulate Jesus because he’s a good shepherd.” He listed the qualities of a good shepherd to include clear vision, holiness, love, meekness, endurance and obedience to the word of God.

As he was rounding off the training, Prophet Ayorinde said the last training for this year would come up on November 5, noting that participants would be issued certificates to enable them qualify for ordination. He shared the grace.
