That Senator Florence Ita-Giwa is a well celebrated Nigerian society matriarch has never been in doubt. She is one figure that has remained hardworking and relevant both as a politician and entrepreneur. The Kilburn Polytechnic London graduate fondly called Mama Bakassi has over the years invested well including in the oil and gas sector and other lucrative sectors of the economy. All these have yielded good dividends over the years, hence her ability to live well and thus easy for her to maintain her gorgeous lifestyle. On February 19, the highly influential philanthropist and socialite clocked 73. Of course, the very elegant woman normally hosts an annual classy birthday bash but she defered this year’s celebration by two weeks for a special occasion. Last Sunday, to celebrate her 73rd year on earth, Ita-Giwa extended her business frontier with the opening of her latest pet dream, ‘Echoes of Calabar’, a 5-Star posh restaurant in the heart of Victoria Island, Lagos.
It’s no brainer that Ita-Giwa loves where she is from to a fault. The Cross River/Akwa Ibom people are known for their super tasty food, amongst other things. So Ita-Giwa’s new upscale diner is a part of the celebration of her heritage which she has always loved to put on the front burner. The opening was held amidst loads of pomp with the presence of who-is-who in the society establishment.
With casual elegance as dress code for the soiree, guests were treated to good food tasting experience under a classy ambience. Apart from the sumptuous buffet, guests were also treated to high-end assorted drinks and beverages. In spite of her 73 years of age, Ita-Giwa, looking stunning in a red designer attire, was seen attending personally to all her guests including Folorunsho Alakija, Sisi Abbah Folawiyo, Chief Mike Inegbese, Ireti Asemota, Ali Baba, Ini Edo, Rufai and Funmi Ladipo, Patrick Doyle, AY Makun, Sola Shobowale, Ngozi Nwosu, Mo Abudu, Ruth Osime, Ndidi Obiorah among others. The soiree climaxed with a disco gig that had the celebrant with scores of her younger friends partied till the wee hours of Monday.
