Veteran gospel singer, Asu Ekiye has announced his separation from his wife of 28 years, Kunemofa Asu.
The artiste, popularly known as The Prince of the Niger Delta, disclosed this in a public notice shared on Facebook on Thursday.
The couple got married in 1998.
The notice reads, “After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to KUNEMOFA ASU has come to an end.
“Some chapters, however significant and memorable, eventually come to an end. I choose to close this chapter with grace, gratitude and dignity, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season.”
Ekiye said the married effectively ended in 2025 but he chose to delay the announcement until now so he could gain clarity.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago. I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to bring the perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves,” he stated.
In a 2018 interview, Ekiye disclosed that he proposed to his wife on the street, adding that they never dated in the conventional sense.
He also praised her character, describing her as a “true ccompanion”.
