Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has clarified that the confrontation and gunfire reported near the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, on Wednesday were not connected to him or his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Davido made the clarification in a post on his official X account after reports that suspected hoodlums had confronted the governor’s convoy following his visit to the monarch’s palace.
“It was a fight outside the palace that had nothing to do with us! The pple love excellency!” the singer wrote.
Reports from the scene said the confrontation escalated into an exchange of gunfire between the suspected hoodlums and members of the governor’s security detail.
The shooting reportedly continued for about 12 to 15 minutes before the suspected attackers fled, leaving traders and residents around the palace area in panic.

The state government confirmed that Adeleke’s convoy was attacked, with the governor’s security personnel responding to the assailants.
Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, identified the attackers as hoodlums and said the security team successfully repelled them.
“They are hoodlums, and the governor’s security repelled them. They attacked the governor’s convoy at Ataoja’s palace. No casualty,” Alimi said.
The incident took place on the same day Adeleke received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), formally confirming his re-election as Osun governor.
Adeleke won the August 15 governorship election with 511,067 votes, defeating All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who recorded 444,815 votes.
