The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has reiterated its commitment towards addressing the myriad of challenges bedevilling the country and fostering unity.
IPAC National Chairman Yusuf Dantell, who stated this yesterday in Abuja, at the unveiling of his 90 days scorecard, called on the general assembly to ratify the relevant actions, programmes and initiatives of the Council.
Dantalle noted that the judgement that rested the legal battle between him and other aggrieved members after the Council’s election was in the interest of the IPAC.
“Within 90 days of Yusuf M. Dantalle’s leadership as National Chairman, the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has made significant strides in various areas:
“Resolving Legal Challenges: Despite facing legal challenges to the election of IPAC officials, the Council swiftly vacated the procured court order against the duly democratically elected EXCO and garnered eminent support from stakeholders to foster unity within the organization.
“It is instructive to note that the Council got a sound judgement in favour of the Council.
“Post Election Visitation to National Chairmen of Political Parties: Council visited about ten (10) National Chairmen of political parties as part of the post election reconciliation process.
“The visit is on-going and anticipated to consolidate the inclusivity vision of the Council leadership.
“Strengthening Partnerships:IPAC prioritized enhancing partnerships, evident in its visit to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS)in Jos, Plateau State.
“The 2-day working visit led to the development of a collaborative 2day Workshop for National Chairmen and National Women Leaders by NIPSS in Abuja supported by the Mac Arthur Foundation.
“The programme aimed at institutionalizing behavioural change approaches to reduce corruption in Nigerian politics.
“Strategic Planning: A strategic engagement with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy resulted in a three day retreat at Eko Hotel, Lagos, where IPAC developed its first ever four year Strategic Plan.
“This groundbreaking initiative aims to provide a roadmap for the Council’s future activities and realization of its goals and objectives.
“Advocacy for Increased Funding:IPAC engaged with the Honourable Minister of Budget and National Planning, His Excellency, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu to advocate increased funding in key sectors, such as Education, Health, Agriculture, and for IPAC itself.
“This demonstrates the Council’s commitment to addressing critical issues affecting the nation.
“Collaboration with Kukah Foundation: The Council engaged in discussions with the Kukah Foundation, signaling its openness to collaboration with various stakeholders to advance its agenda of deepening democracy in Nigeria.
“Strengthening Collaboration with the Chinese Embassy: In continuation of cultivating IPAC relationship with the Chinese Embassy, the Council held a new year engagement at the IPAC Secretariat where it canvassed for more support and strengthening of existing relationship, which has opened up vistas of opportunity for new slots of international capacity building for party leaders.
“The Council also participated in the China New Year celebration in Abuja. Constitution of IPAC Standing Committees: Council constituted Standing Committees as outlined in the IPAC Code of Conduct, aiming to work collaboratively towards achieving set goals.
“Additionally, ad hoc committees were set up to drive specific programmes and activities of the Council.
“Inclusivity Initiatives: Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, Council established three Directorates dedicated to Women, Youth, and People with Disabilities, ensuring that the voices of underrepresented groups are heard and considered within the Council.
“Being the first IPAC leadership to achieve three elected women in Council as provided by the Code of Conduct, the Council is set to pursue inclusivity and good governance for political parties.
“Election of IPAC State Officers:IPAC State elections have been concluded in about 30States of Nigeria including the Federal Capital Territory.
“IPAC is also happy to announce the election of the first woman IPAC State Chairman in Lagos State.
“Development Slogan for Inter Party Advisory Council:Council developed a new SLOGAN for IPAC.The slogan is IPAC: Deepening Democracy in Nigeria!
“Overall, under this leadership, IPAC has demonstrated proactive measures to address challenges, foster collaboration, and set strategic directions for the Council’s future growth and impact.
“I therefore, on behalf of the leadership of IPAC request the General Assembly to ratify the relevant actions, programmes and initiatives of the Council as enumerated above,” he said.
