Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has charged Christians to take an active part in politics, especially in the 2027 general election.
Makinde gave the charge while speaking at a church service at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Sunday.
The APM candidate, who decried the state of affairs in the country, expressed confidence that, with God and Nigerians behind him, he will win the January 16, 2027 presidential contest.
The Oyo governor noted that the country had poor and ineffective leadership, particularly in the last three and a half years, stating that the need to reset governance in the country had inspired his Reset Nigeria Agenda.
Furthermore, Makinde explained that his aspiration for the presidency was not backed by any political godfather but by God Almighty and the people of Nigeria. He expressed optimism that God would be merciful to Nigerians by providing the right leadership through the 2027 presidential election.
He said: “When I said in Oyo State in 2018 that I would like to be governor, somebody asked me, ‘governor of which Rotary District?’ I said Governor of Oyo State, and they asked, ‘with no godfather; nobody in politics who can stand in for you?’ I responded by saying, well I have God the Father. And I became the Governor of Oyo State.

“This time around, we also have God the Father and that God will be merciful unto Nigeria and He will show us mercy in this country,” the APM presidential candidate stated.
The presidential hopeful stated that, as the Governor of Oyo State, he anchored his stewardship on planning, transparency and accountability, and developed a roadmap for the development of the state, which guided his administration in delivering on its promises to the people.
Consequently, Makinde explained that, in preparation for the presidency, he had also developed the Reset Nigeria Agenda, anchored on four pillars: security, the economy, education and the socio-political space.
“I want Nigerians to be able to hold me accountable, not just through promises but through documented commitments. Everything is written down in black and white, and I am prepared to be held accountable for everything contained in this document,” he said.
The President of COCIN, Rev. Amos Musa Mohzo, while addressing the congregation, drew the attention of the APM candidate to the pressing challenges facing the country, particularly the worsening insecurity and economic hardship.
Rev. Mohzo later prayed for Makinde and encouraged him to continue his campaigns, stressing that the will of God would prevail in his destiny.
