The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2026 first series Computer-Based (CBT) West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, recording a modest improvement in overall performance.
Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola F. Adesina, said the examination was conducted across 166 centres nationwide between January 28 and February 14, according to a statement issued from its headquarters in Yaba,
A total of 10,480 candidates sat for the exam, with 3,429 candidates—representing 32.72 per cent—obtaining credits and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
The performance reflects a 5.76 per cent increase compared to the 26.96 per cent pass rate recorded in the 2025 first series.
The council also disclosed that 43 candidates with special needs participated, including visually impaired, hearing-impaired and albino candidates, all of whom received adequate support during the exercise.

WAEC noted that 8,418 candidates, representing 80.32 per cent, have had their results fully processed, while 2,062 others are still being processed due to errors attributed to the candidates.
Meanwhile, the results of 75 candidates, representing 0.72 per cent of the total entry, have been withheld over allegations of examination malpractice, with investigations ongoing.
“The cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council for determination. The Committee’s decisions will be communicated directly to the affected candidates, thereafter,” Adesina noted
Candidates have been advised to check their results on the official portal and access digital copies of their certificates released alongside the results.
“The results are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our staff and examiners. We wish all the candidates the best in their future endeavours,” Adesina added.
