Misan Ukubeyinje, former Delta State lawmaker and executive assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, has endorsed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s call for urgent rehabilitation and reactivation of the Warri Port.
He described the move as essential to restoring balance in Nigeria’s port operations and enhancing economic growth. Ukubeyinje praised the governor for highlighting longstanding concerns about the Nigerian Ports Authority’s (NPA) focus on Lagos to the detriment of other ports. He emphasized that Lagos Port’s dominance has caused congestion, elevated haulage costs, and slowed business, while reopening Warri, Koko, and Calabar ports could relieve this pressure and boost the regional economies.
“Revamping Warri and Koko ports will not only decongest Lagos but also drive growth in the Niger Delta, create jobs, and reduce logistics costs.” Ukubeyinje urged the Federal Government and NPA to end the monopolistic control favoring Lagos, advocating for these ports to be treated as strategic assets rather than “political tokens.” He called for collective advocacy and legislative efforts from leaders in Delta and the South-South regions to support these initiatives, emphasizing his dedication to decentralized economic infrastructure and inclusive development across Nigeria.
