Four men were arrested in London on Friday as suspected Iranian spies, the Metropolitan Police said.
Counterterrorism officers carried out the arrests in the early hours in Barnet and Watford, located on the city’s northern outskirts.
According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, the investigation focuses on “suspected surveillance of locations and individuals linked to the Jewish community” in London.
Commander Helen Flanagan, the force’s counter-terror chief, said the arrests are part of a long-running investigation aimed at disrupting “malign activity”.
She urged the public, particularly the Jewish community, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
The suspected Iranian spies, men aged 22, 40, 52, and 55, were taken into custody, along with six others suspected of assisting them. Another individual was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer during the operation.
Security experts highlight the growing complexity of Iran-linked threats abroad. Sam Vinograd, former U.S. Department of Homeland Security assistant secretary for counterterrorism, told CBS News that Iran operates a “multi-dimensional threat”, leveraging regional proxies and surrogate networks—including criminal actors—to carry out espionage, sabotage, and even assassinations.
