Ugwuanyi tasks Nigerian Army on terrorism, crime

The Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has charged
Nigerian Army to remain vigilant against terrorists and other criminal
elements in the country and save the people from their present shackle
of bondage.

Governor Ugwuanyi made the charge while playing host to the Chief of
Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai and other top army
officers, including the GOC 82 Division Nigerian Army, Enugu who paid
him a courtesy visit at Government House, Enugu.

Commending the army for its continuing successes in the battle to
overcome security challenges towards ensuring that the country remains
safe and secure for all, Governor Ugwuanyi assured the officers of the
state governmentā€™s commitment to adequately assist the army to
successfully discharge its statutory duties to the people without
hitches.

In his words, ā€œthe army has indeed, remained a regular and dependable
partner in our efforts to sustain the comparatively high level of
security and peaceful environment in the state. In that respect, it
shares in the credit for the stateā€™s current standing as the one of
the safest in the country.ā€

Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf
Buratai, said that the top military officers were in Government House
Enugu as part of their familiarization tours of the army formations
and units in the country.

He acknowledged and appreciated the peaceful and cordial relationship
existed between the army and the Enugu State Government in the areas
of military intelligent gathering as well as financial support among
others.

He reiterated that such assistance to the army would go a long way to
put the officers at alert towards combating and enforcing its war
against all manners of crimes and social vices including terrorists,
kidnappers and other hoodlums.

Lieutenant General Buratai, said that Nigerian Army remained ever
vigilant and committed to protect and preserve the integrity of the
country including its citizenry and thanked Governor Ugwuanyi for
giving them audience.
