Recalls late Islamic leader’s counsel, support during 2023 campaign

President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN), Malam Nafiu Baba-Ahmed.
He served as one of the prominent voices of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria on national and religious affairs.
Tinubu described him as a respected administrator and religious leader who died in the early hours of Tuesday after what Tinubu described as a meritorious career devoted to Islam and service to Nigeria.
In a condolence message issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the deceased as an impactful leader who steered the affairs of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria with wisdom, foresight and a deep commitment to unity, justice and peaceful coexistence.
The President recalled his long-standing association with Baba-Ahmed, particularly during the build-up to the 2011 election and in subsequent years.

Tinubu also acknowledged the late Islamic leader’s counsel and support during his 2023 presidential campaign, describing his contribution as significant to his political journey.
According to the President, Baba-Ahmed played a pivotal role in sustaining the Council’s voice on national issues, fostering greater understanding and promoting the values of moral renewal and social justice.
“President Tinubu condoles with the President of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, its members, the Baba-Ahmed family, the Government and people of Kaduna State, and the Nigerian Muslim Ummah over this huge loss,” the statement said.
The President prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive Baba-Ahmed’s shortcomings, admit him to Jannatul Firdaus and grant his family and the Muslim Ummah the fortitude to bear the loss.
