The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of military personnel and other passengers in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft crash in Ondo State, describing the victims as heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Chairman of the NGF and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, conveyed the Forum’s condolences to the bereaved families, colleagues and loved ones of those killed in the crash.
The aircraft crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the NGF Director of Media and Strategic Communications, Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, AbdulRazaq said the tragedy had plunged the nation into mourning.
“On behalf of the 36 state governors and the citizens of Nigeria, the NGF extends its deepest condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of the fallen officers and personnel,” the statement said.
The Forum also sympathised with the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force and the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria over the loss.
It commended the military personnel who died in the crash for their service to the country, stressing that their sacrifice would remain etched in the nation’s memory.

The Forum prayed for comfort and strength for the bereaved families and the nation as Nigeria grapples with the loss.

The NGF’s statement came amid a wave of national mourning following the crash, with President Bola Tinubu declaring three days of national mourning and ordering that national flags be flown at half-mast across the country in honour of the victims.
The Nigerian Air Force has also commenced a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
