The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Gombe State, Bala Bello Tinka, has pledged to lift the night-time restriction on commercial motorcycle operations if elected governor in the 2027 election.

Tinka made the pledge while addressing residents and supporters across Gombe metropolis, saying his administration would review the restriction imposed on commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as Achaba, while introducing appropriate safety and regulatory measures.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya imposed the restriction in June 2025, limiting commercial motorcycle operations in Gombe metropolis and environs to between 6am and 7pm as part of measures to curb criminal activities.

Tinka said he would restore 24-hour Achaba operations, arguing that thousands of young people depend on the business for their livelihoods, while many residents rely on motorcycles for transportation, particularly at night.

He, however, said the restoration of full-time operations would be subject to effective regulation and safety measures.

The ADC candidate also pledged to take decisive action against street crimes, particularly phone and handbag snatching, within the first two months of his administration.

He said residents should be able to move freely within their communities without fear of criminal attacks, promising stronger collaboration with security agencies and community stakeholders to tackle street-level crime.

On education, Tinka promised free education from primary school through university, saying the policy would prevent financial hardship from denying children from poor families access to schooling.

He also pledged free antenatal care for pregnant women and free medical treatment for children from birth to five years.

According to him, the measures would reduce the financial burden on families and improve access to essential maternal and child healthcare.

Tinka identified security, education, healthcare, youth employment and economic empowerment as key priorities of his proposed administration.

He urged residents to support the ADC in 2027, promising practical policies focused on addressing the everyday challenges confronting the people of Gombe State.
