Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admitted it was “difficult” for his team to play with ten men against Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Premier League team entered the encounter behind 3-0 from the first leg at the Bernabeu.

However, their task grew more difficult as captain Bernardo Silva received a straight red card for obstructing the ball on the goal line.

Los Blancos took the lead thanks to a penalty kick from Vinicius Jr.

Despite Erling Haaland’s equaliser, Vinicius scored again to give Madrid a 5-1 aggregate victory.

Guardiola, speaking to Amazon Prime, said: “It’s difficult once you are 4-0 down and playing 10 men against 11. But we did everything.

“It’s a little bit of a learning. But it should have been 11 against 11. But we never know. Maybe we lose 6-0 but it’s a fact.

“[Thibaut] Courtois is a fantastic keeper. First 15-20 minutes was good but after that it was 10 against 11 and it was difficult.”
