President Donald Trump has said the United States Navy is ready to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz if tensions in the Gulf escalate further.

On Tuesday, in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated that the Navy would move to safeguard commercial vessels “as soon as possible” if the situation demands it.

“If necessary, the United States Navy will begin escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible,” he said.

He stressed that the United States would guarantee the uninterrupted flow of energy supplies to global markets.

“No matter what, the United States will ensure the FREE FLOW of ENERGY to the WORLD,” he added.

Trump also directed the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to provide risk insurance and financial guarantees for maritime trade operating in the region.

According to Trump, the intervention is largely focused on protecting energy shipments, but extends to all commercial shipping companies.

The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is one of the world’s most strategically vital maritime chokepoints. It serves as the sole sea passage linking the Gulf to international waters.

Major oil producers like Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates rely on the route to export crude oil and liquefied natural gas.
