President Bola Tinubu has described the traditional ruler of Ilu-Abo in Ondo State, Oba Samuel Oluyemisi Falae, as a quintessential trailblazer whose life of discipline and resilience serves as a gold standard for Nigerian statesmanship.
Speaking at the official launch of the monarch’s autobiography, The ‘Triumph of Grace’, the President noted that the octogenarian’s transition from a top-tier technocrat to a revered traditional ruler represents a rare bridge between tradition and modern governance.
Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, emphasised that Falae’s career, spanning roles as SGF and Minister of Finance, was defined by an uncommon intellectual depth that steered the nation through complex fiscal eras.
“The unveiling of The Triumph of Grace offers a compelling portrait of a distinguished statesman. His record in public office demonstrates a commitment to national development that has left a lasting impact on our country, “ Tinubu said.
The President also challenged current traditional rulers to move beyond ceremonial duties and become frontline agents in the fight against insecurity.

“Our royal fathers must emulate Falae. At a time when our nation faces security and social challenges, their role in peace-building and conflict resolution has become even more critical. Peace and security are not solely the responsibility of government; they are collective duties.”
Tinubu recommended the autobiography to younger Nigerians, stating that Falae’s story is a gift of wisdom for a generation in need of lessons on perseverance and patriotism.
The 501-page book, which spans 22 chapters, was described by former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, as a mandatory reference for anyone seeking to understand Nigeria’s political and economic evolution over the last 50 years.
The sentiment of Falae as a pioneer was echoed by a former presidential candidate, Babagana Kingibe, who remarked that the monarch was one of the best Presidents Nigeria never had.
The event was attended by political and traditional heavyweights, including a former SGF, Yayale Ahmed, who represented a former Head of State: Abdulsalami Abubakar; Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; former governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; ex-deputy governor of Ogun State, Chief Segun Adesegun, and representatives of various state governments.
The list also comprised Chief Olabode George and Senator Dayo Adeyeye as well as a high-powered delegation of Afenifere, including Basorun Seinde Arogbofa, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, Chief Kofoworola Akerele-Bucknor (former Lagos State deputy governor), Chief Korede Duyile, Chief Supo Sonibare, Mr. Jare Ajayi, Agbaakin Ademola Folarin, Chief Dare Babarinsa, Lanre Omisore, Chief Deji Wellington, Mr. Remi Layiwola and Mr. Layi Popoola.
