Former Secretary-General of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Ezugwu Williams, has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of worsening economic hardship across the country, saying many Nigerians have been pushed deeper into hunger and desperation.
Williams made the remarks during an interview on ARISE News, where he lamented what he described as the growing belief among Nigerians that wealth can only come through access to government funds.
According to him, the current administration has created an environment where citizens increasingly see government money as the only path to financial success, while genuine enterprise and productivity continue to decline.
He noted that only a few traders still maintain the belief that wealth can be built independently without reliance on government connections or political influence.

“Many Nigerians believe wealth comes mainly from government money,” he said, adding that the Tinubu administration has boxed citizens into hunger and hardship.
Williams also raised concerns over the state of journalism in the country, alleging that many journalists no longer report everything they witness, possibly out of fear or external pressures.
Having spent more than 30 years in the media industry, he said many people are unwilling to publicly speak about the level of corruption in Nigeria, despite being fully aware of its severity.
He stressed that corruption has become deeply entrenched in the system and that the huge amount of money involved in corrupt practices today is capable of distorting people’s judgment, values, and moral standards.
According to him, the scale of corruption now goes beyond ordinary public concern and has become a major threat to national integrity and social trust.
