A non-governmental organisation committed to youth development and educational advancement, ThriveBridge Empowerment Network, has finalised arrangements to host an inter-school spelling bee competition aimed at promoting academic excellence, improving language proficiency and encouraging healthy intellectual competition among young learners.
The competition, tagged ThriveBridge Inter-School Spelling Bee Competition 1.0, with the theme, “Can Your School Spell?” is scheduled for Friday, November 6, in Warewa, Ogun State.
The initiative is designed to provide primary and secondary school pupils with an opportunity to demonstrate their spelling abilities, expand their vocabulary, develop self-confidence and interact with their peers in an atmosphere that promotes learning beyond the conventional classroom.
In an invitation issued to participating schools, the organisation explained that the programme forms part of its broader commitment to empowering young people and communities through education, skills development and other interventions that promote personal growth.
According to the Convener and Founder of ThriveBridge Empowerment Network, Yetunde Olori-Oladipo, the competition goes beyond identifying outstanding spellers, as it is also intended to stimulate intellectual curiosity, strengthen discipline and inspire children to appreciate the importance of education.
“At ThriveBridge, we believe every child deserves an opportunity to discover their potential, develop their talents, and shine.
“Beyond the excitement of competition, this initiative seeks to nurture intellectual curiosity, encourage discipline, and celebrate the brilliance of young minds.”
The organisation disclosed that participants would compete for cash prizes, with the overall winner receiving N30,000, while the first and second runners-up would receive N20,000 and N10,000 respectively.
In addition to the monetary rewards, school bags will be presented to competing pupils, while the winning school will receive a trophy. Certificates of participation will also be awarded to all contestants in recognition of their efforts.
Under the participation guidelines, each invited school is expected to nominate one pupil to represent it in either the primary or secondary school category, accompanied by a teacher and other pupils who will serve as members of the audience.
ThriveBridge explained that the arrangement was intended to encourage wider participation, promote interaction among pupils from different schools and create an environment in which academic achievement is celebrated.
The organisation expressed optimism that the initiative would help young learners develop greater confidence in their abilities while encouraging schools to place additional emphasis on language development and extracurricular academic activities.
It also acknowledged the contributions of schools and teachers to the intellectual and personal development of children, stressing the importance of creating opportunities through which young people can discover and demonstrate their talents.
