The ceremony drew an impressive array of attendees, from influential figures in politics and government to celebrated personalities and cultural luminaries. Their presence underscored the significance of this event in the Yoruba cultural calendar.
Speaking at the Oranmiyan Temple, the newly honored Agbakin Bashorun expressed his deep gratitude and delight.
“I am profoundly honored by this title,” he said, his voice resonating with pride. “Though it may not have come as a surprise to some, as it had been foretold by friends who believed it was long overdue, the warm reception I received in Ile-Ife has been truly heartwarming.”
Chief Alexandra emphasized the value of Yoruba customs and traditions, acknowledging the Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi, for the honor bestowed upon him.
He assured the Ooni that he would uphold the responsibilities of his new title with the utmost dedication, pledging to defend Yoruba land with the same vigor as the legendary Bashorun Ogunmola.
The week-long celebration began with traditional rites at the Oranmiyan Grove in Mopa, where the new chief was briefed on the protocols of his office.
The culmination of the festivities occurred on Saturday, August 31, with a grand reception at the Ojaja Resort in Ile-Ife.
There, the Ooni, the head of Yoruba kings, formally handed over the symbolic defense sword to the Agbakin Bashorun.
The evening was further enlivened by a captivating performance from Fuji maestro, King Saheed Osupa, whose popular songs added a festive spirit to the occasion.
The installation of Chief Alexandra as Agbakin Bashorun of Yoruba Land not only marked a significant moment in Yoruba history but also showcased the rich cultural heritage and unity of the Yoruba people.
