The Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency, ARTMA, has advised commuters to use the 2nd Niger Bridge diversion route following the closure and ongoing maintenance works at the 1st Niger Bridge.
In a statement issued in Awka, the agency said it has intensified traffic management operations to ensure smooth movement of vehicles during the period.
The MD/CEO of ARTMA, Engr Okonkwo Emeka (Konti), said the agency has continued the installation of additional directional road signs at strategic locations to guide motorists seamlessly to the 2nd Niger Bridge.
Okonkwo also disclosed that ARTMA officers have been deployed to major routes to direct road users and ensure compliance with the approved diversion.
“The agency is intensifying traffic management operations along major routes, with officers deployed to guide road users and ensure compliance with approved diversion routes,” Engr Okonkwo stated.

The ARTMA boss urged motorists to cooperate with traffic officers and maintain discipline on the roads.
“This is not a time to park on the roads to pick up or drop passengers or even exchange pleasantries, as the roads are extremely busy due to the diversion. All road users must keep moving and obey traffic regulations to avoid unnecessary delays and congestion.”
ARTMA reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring safe, orderly, and efficient traffic flow throughout the maintenance period.
“Motorists plying the Onitsha-Asaba axis have been advised to plan their trips early and follow directives from traffic officers on the ground,” he added.
