Oyo police nab 25 suspected kidnappers, robbers, rescue 5 victims

Oyo State Police Command has arrested 25 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers and cult members, rescued five victims after and raiding criminals’ hideouts along Ibadan-Lagos Expressway. Commissioner of Police: Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola, said: “Criminals should start relocating from the state.

“We have started to smoke them out of their hideouts. These ember months, we are going after the criminals. l charged officers to be active and imbibe community policing to flush them out. I warned officers to shun corruption and illegal duty. They should cultivate good relationship with the public and respect the rights of the citizens.

“On August 21, 2026, we marked the Nigeria Police Force International Youth Day, an initiative of IGP Olatunji Disu. The command used the occasion to remind youths of the importance of Verify Before You Share (VBYS), urging them to exercise responsibility in the use of digital platforms and avoid becoming agents for the spread of misinformation, hate and harmful contents.  We had a lecture and interactive engagement discussions covering crime prevention, drug abuse, cultism, political and digital thuggery, responsible use of social media, youth participation in community policing and other emerging security challenges.

“We have sustained proactive and intelligence-led policing. We redeployed our tactical team to the flashpoints to checkmate criminals along Ibadan-Lagos Expressway, Ibadan-Abeokuta Expressway and Ibadan-Ife Expressway. We have charged some of the suspects to court while others are still under investigations. 

“Police Monitoring Unit through intelligence gathering and discreet surveillance arrested 10 suspects at their various hideouts in Iseyin and Saki. We recovered human skull from them. Operatives with Amotekun Corps, vigilantes and hunters rescued an abducted 17-year-old at Aladere, Ikoyi IIe, near the Government Reserve Forest.

“Operatives in Oluyole Division, Ibadan, arrested three suspected armed robbers who are members of Aiye and Eiye cult groups.

“Three suspected armed robbers were arrested in Sabo, Mokola, lbadan. Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested two suspects in their hideout in Mojoyin Molade, lwo Road, Ibadan. A five-year-old, who was abducted from her residence in lyana Offa, lbadan, was rescued. 

“Police rescued an abducted farmer along Igbojaye-Budo bush road. Operatives attached to Bodija Housing Police Division while conducting an intelligence -led stop and search operation along Oshuntokun Avenue, Bodija, Ibadan, arrested three suspects and recovered one locally fabricated pistol, live cartridges and suspected illicit drugs.

“We are emboldened by the leadership of IGP Disu. He has repeatedly expressed his stance on professionalism, discipline, respect for the rights and dignity of citizens, public trust and enthroning a people-centred policing.  The command remains committed to professionalism and respect for human rights and adherence to the rule of law in all its operations.”
