From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi

It-will not be business as usual again. That is the message Kebbi State Police Command is sending to criminal elements. Since Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia assumed office, he has worked to alter the security narrative.

Beyond collaborating with sister security agencies, he maintains regular contact with traditional rulers on how to improve security in their domains. From Kebbi the South to the North and Central districts, police are taking the battle to the territories of terrorists tormenting residents.

From Bagudo, Bunza, Sakaba and Danko-Wasagu to Arewa and Augie, nemesis is catching up with notorious criminals fast. As police neutralise the bandits, their logistics suppliers are also being arrested.

Hadejia said: “The command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, Civilian JTF, vigilante groups, and other critical stakeholders, has continued to employ intelligence-led policing, rapid response and coordinated operations to deny criminal elements the opportunity to operate freely.

“Within one month, the command recorded a number of operational successes in the fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms and other criminal activities.

“One major breakthrough was the arrest of suspected members of the notorious Mamuda group of Boko Haram, known as Mamudawa, by the Bagudo Police Division. The group was allegedly responsible for the killing of Federal Road Safety Corps officers in the area.

“On June 5, 2026, at about 1:20 p.m., Police Mobile operatives at Illo Division, Bagudo LG, acting on credible intelligence while on patrol along the Illo–Lolo Road, intercepted and arrested three suspected members of Mamudawa/Boko Haram elements. The suspects, Muhammadu, Aliyu and Abubakar, were arrested on a motorcycle while heading to Lolo town allegedly to procure food supplies for criminal elements.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that these suspects were linked to movements around the area during the attack that claimed the lives of three FRSC personnel at Illo on June 4, 2026. The suspects and the recovered motorcycle bearing a foreign registration number will be prosecuted accordingly.

“Similarly, the command arrested four suspected Lakurawa terrorists, Haruna, Lawali, Anme and Yahaya, involved in armed terrorism-related activities within SODA forest in Bagudo.

“To cut off the oxygen of terrorists, officers arrested Sani of Zazzagawa, Argungu Local Government, for allegedly supplying logistics to Lakurawa terrorists. He was accused of supplying foodstuffs and soft drinks to criminal elements. He was also observed on several occasions conveying Amadu, a suspected member of the Lakurawa terrorist group, from Zazzagawa to a suspect’s enclave.

“A few days ago, officers of the command also neutralised a bandit gang leader identified as Jiji Mujugu in his hideout at Bagudo Local Government during a gun battle with combined security agencies.

“These operations have also led to interventions against terrorist’ activities, including engagements with criminal elements, protection of vulnerable communities, and restoration of confidence among residents.

“The successes recorded are products of intelligence gathering, dedication of police personnel, cooperation with sister security agencies and the invaluable support of members of the public.”

“The command particularly appreciates the contributions of vigilante groups, Civilian JTF, DSS, other security agencies and members of the public whose timely information continue to assist security operations.”

He urged residents of Kebbi State to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible

information to the police.
