Spell-a-Ton Africa Ltd has announce the launch of the National Spelling Championship, an academic competition designed to promote literacy, boost vocabulary development, and inspire a culture of excellence among students across the country and beyond.
The Spell-a-Ton Africa spelling championship will bring young learners from primary (Basic 4-6) and secondary (JSS 1-3) in a contest of spelling proficiency, confidence, and intellectual skill. The competition aims to nurture a love for words while building essential communication abilities that are critical for academic and lifelong success.
Speaking on the initiative, the Director of Spell-a-Ton Africa Ltd, Dr. Oluchukwu Agwuncha emphasized that the championship is more than just a contest—it is a movement to empower the next generation of African leaders through language mastery.
Agwuncha said participants will engage in multiple rounds, including objective tests, written spelling exercises, and oral spelling challenges, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of their abilities.
According to the Program Coordinator, Miracle Ozonyiri-Nwaneri, “the championship, which will feature participation from schools nationwide, a structured, multi-stage competition format, recognition and awards for outstanding spellers and schools, and opportunities for students to build confidence and showcase their talents on a national platform, will hold in the six Geopolitical Zones in Nigeria viz: South-East -May/June, South-South – June/July, South-West- August, North-East – August, North-West – September, North-Central – October and the grand finale/award ceremony in October. “It promises to be exciting for the participants” she said.
Stakeholders in the education sector have applauded the initiative as a timely intervention in strengthening literacy development and academic competitiveness among young learners.
The organizers said registration is open to interested schools and students. Participants are encouraged to prepare diligently and take advantage of this unique opportunity to shine on a national stage.
