Liam Delap has completed a club-record £50m transfer from Chelsea to Nottingham Forest, signing a five-year contract with the Premier League club.
The 23-year-old striker leaves Stamford Bridge after just one season, having struggled to make a significant impact at Chelsea, where he scored only one Premier League goal.
Delap will now look to revive his career at Forest and rediscover the form that made him one of England’s most promising young forwards during his breakthrough campaign with Ipswich Town in 2024-25.
He scored 12 Premier League goals for Ipswich that season despite the club winning only four matches and eventually being relegated. His performances prompted Chelsea to sign him for about £30m.
Chelsea have now reportedly sold the striker for £50m, securing a £20m profit on the player after just one year at the club.
Delap’s physical strength, pace and ability to drive forward with the ball were key features of his game at Ipswich. He recorded 26 shot-ending carries during that campaign, the most by any Premier League striker.
At Nottingham Forest, Delap will work under manager Oliver Glasner, who he believes can help him regain his best form and continue his development.
Speaking after completing the move, Delap said: “This is a massive club with a big history.
“I spoke to the manager and I like his way. I think he can be the one to really help me develop and make that next step.”
Forest will be hoping Delap can reproduce his Ipswich form and justify the club-record £50m investment as he begins a new chapter at the City Ground.
