Kebbi State Police Command has disclosed that it recorded a major breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on the theft and vandalism of critical national infrastructure, with the recovery of a large quantity of stolen electricity service cables in Bunza Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.
According to him, “the recovery, made on 25th August 2026 during a police operation in the Kara Area of Bunza Town, followed concerns over the persistent vandalism of electricity infrastructure in the area, which has plunged several communities into darkness and disrupted the supply of electricity to residents.
“Police operatives recovered ten bundles and seven sacks of electricity service cables. A suspect, Mustapha Abubakar, was arrested and subsequently arraigned before the court.

“The development underscores the Command’s resolve to dismantle the activities of individuals and criminal networks responsible for the theft and vandalism of public infrastructure, particularly those whose actions continue to undermine essential services and adversely affect communities.”
Usman added that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar M. Hadejia, reaffirmed the command’s determination to protect critical national assets and ensure that perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
He, however, urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police and assured the public that all information would be treated with strict confidentiality.
