Now, an education technology firm, SimplifiedIQ, is tackling this problem head-on with an AI-driven assessment platform that is gaining rapid adoption across the country.
The platform provides a solution to what many educators describe as a systemic bottleneck. It empowers them to generate customized, curriculum-aligned tests in minutes with varied question formats, cognitive difficulty levels, automated hints, and feedback. By moving assessment design from manual art to a structured, data-driven science, SimplifiedIQ is saving educators hundreds of hours while giving school administrators unprecedented insights into student performance. This innovation will position Nigeria as a key player in the global EdTech landscape, and it demonstrates how locally developed solutions can solve foundational educational challenges.
In Nigeria’s diverse educational system, ensuring that assessments are fair, secure, reliable, and consistent cannot be overemphasized. Educators spend weeks crafting exam questions, a process prone to human error and unconscious inconsistencies. “The disconnect between curriculum and assessment is a major hurdle to improving educational outcomes,” recent research from the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) states. “When tests don’t accurately measure what students are taught, we can’t identify learning gaps effectively. A tool that bridges this gap is not just a convenience; it is a necessity for systemic improvement.

At the heart of SimplifiedIQ’s platform is a meticulously structured, dynamic algorithm that provides unique sets of questions, concepts, and the ability to tag learning objectives. This is not merely a collection of questions but a relational database where each item is tagged with metadata, including curriculum standard, topic, cognitive level (e.g., recall, analysis, application), and difficulty. This structured framework is the engine that allows the platform to generate balanced and valid assessments automatically.
The architectural design of this complex data engine was led by Oluwemimo Adetunji, the Head of Data and Analytics at SimplifiedIQ. Initially tasked with cleaning and standardizing vast, disparate educational datasets, Adetunji’s role quickly evolved. He went on to develop the foundational blueprint that governs how the platform ingests, categorizes, and leverages educational content. His work was pivotal in transforming raw curriculum data into the intelligent, structured framework that underpins the entire assessment generation system.
“We had powerful machine learning algorithms, but data without structure is just noise,” explained Sam Obi, CEO of SimplifiedIQ. “Oluwemimo’s breakthrough was in creating a scalable data architecture that could interpret curriculum standards and map them to appropriate assessments. He built the ‘brain’ that makes our AI effective. His framework is the reason our platform generates high-quality, standards-aligned questions.
Since launching in 2023, SimplifiedIQ has expanded quickly. Today, the platform supports multiple institutions and educators across the country. “Before SimplifiedIQ, analyzing student performance was a massive undertaking that we could only do once a term,” said, a principal of a prominent Lagos Secondary School. “Now, I get real-time dashboards showing me which specific concepts students are struggling with, right down to the individual learning objective. We can intervene in weeks, not months.”
SimplifiedIQ’s impact has reached beyond individual schools. The company entered a strategic partnership with Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN). It is also in talks with partners in East Africa, signaling ambitions to expand across Africa.
“The insistence from the engineering team that every feature had to solve a real-world problem for educators and administrators was crucial,” said John Elesho a senior engineer on the team. “But it was Oluwemimo Adetunji’s data blueprint that allowed us to deliver on that promise at scale. His work ensured the engine was not just clever but also robust and reliable.”
As SimplifiedIQ continues its growth, the platform stands as a powerful example of how Nigerian innovation is creating practical, globally relevant tools to solve pressing local challenges.
