Senator pledges cooperation with security agencies to end Mangu killings

From Jude Owuamanam, Jos

Senator representing Plateau Central senatorial zone Diket Plang has expressed his readiness to work with security agencies in the state to end the spate of killings in his senatorial zone, especially Mangu.

This is even as he encouraged Nigerians to bear with the Federal Government as it struggles to end the hardship occasioned by the removal of petroleum subsidy.

Plateau central senatorial zone is made up of Bokkos Mangu, Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam local government areas.

Senator Plang who spoke in Mangu during the disbursement of palliatives to families affected by the crises in Mangu and the flag off of the training of women and youths in digital marketing, gave the assurance that the hardship would soon be over as it is simply temporal.

He said that he would work to ensure that the Operation Hakorin Damisa IV, launched by the Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, become permanent, so as to entrench lasting peace in Mangu.

Plang said, “I want to assure my people that president Tinubu mean well for Nigerians. The tough time are here, but this tough times leads to better days.

“The removal of fuel subsidy has brought hardship to Nigerians, but in no long a time the situation will change for better, because a numbers of palliatives measures are been implemented by the federal government.

“Very soon there will be more funds coming to the local government from the federal account.

“I know how life is always tough for farmers
in the rainy season, and you know in my Senatorial zone, farming is the main stay of livelihood.

“And this time around my people are, at the same time suffering the negative impacts of insecurity. So this empowerment is a desire to register my feelings to my people in this unfortunate situations.

“When I came here to see the numbers of people displaced as a result of insecurity, I knew that what ever empowerment I came with is just a drop in the ocean. I feel that at this critical period of economic hardship, we as elected representative we need to be closer to the people now that they are in need.

“Insecurity has devastating impact on those affected and those not affected. My prayer is that Mangu LGA that is known as a peaceful local government will bounce back again. It is my duty as a their representative to stand by them, and I will stand by them. If I have little I will come, if I have much I will come, and even if I have nothing I will come.

The senator, who said that he’s spending N43 million in his economic empowerment initiative to his constituents, stated that beneficiaries include a cash grant of N25,000 to 300 people trained in small scale businesses, while N15,000 cash for 1,000 families directly impacted by the killings in Mangu, who are currently displaced.

Others were presented with starter-park to practice their skilled work.

He said, “For a start, I am here to disburse as little as N48 million to 3000 beneficiaries, apart from other relief materials. I know these people that give me mandate deserve more, but I was to assure them that this is just the begining.”
