The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Kaduna State Council, has passed a vote of confidence in the administration of Governor Uba Sani, citing improved industrial relations, job security, workers’ welfare and timely payment of salaries.
The labour union, however, appealed to the governor to approve consequential adjustments for core civil servants and reinstate 83 workers of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) and other affected agencies.
The position was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of an emergency State Executive Council meeting of the TUC held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Congress Secretariat in Millennium City, Kaduna.
The communique was jointly signed by the TUC Kaduna State Council Chairperson, Comrade Abdullahi A. DanFulani, and Secretary, Comrade Abdullah Y. Mohammed.
The council, at its 33rd session, unanimously passed the vote of confidence in the governor, describing his administration’s relationship with organised labour as harmonious and beneficial to workers in the state.
According to the communiqué, the administration has “promoted job security and ended unnecessary retrenchment and victimisation of workers,” a development the union said had strengthened industrial harmony across Kaduna State.
The TUC also commended the administration for improving the promotion process for civil servants, saying workers were now experiencing “improved and more timely promotion processes.”
The union particularly praised Governor Sani for approving the reinstatement of 37 workers of the Kaduna State Local Government Service Commission who it said were wrongfully disengaged.
“His Excellency graciously approved, on 15th August 2026, the reinstatement of the appointments of 37 wrongfully disengaged staff of the Local Government Service Commission,” the communiqué stated.
Another major area highlighted by the labour centre was the state government’s free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) luxury bus scheme, which the TUC said had significantly reduced workers’ transportation difficulties and expenses.
“The present administration of His Excellency, Senator Dr. Uba Sani, is spending a huge sum of money on the free CNG transport scheme, which has eased workers’ transportation difficulties and costs, improved punctuality, and enhanced productivity,” the union said.
The TUC, however, urged the governor to extend the free CNG transport scheme to Kafanchan and Zaria, describing the expansion as necessary to enable workers in the two major towns to benefit from the initiative.
The union also commended the resuscitation of the Civil Service Welfare Loan Scheme, under which civil servants can access loans ranging from ₦400,000 to ₦1.5 million, repayable over four years at relatively low interest rates.
It further acknowledged training opportunities provided to workers through the Office of the Head of Service, saying local and international programmes had helped improve workers’ skills and professionalism.
Other achievements cited by the TUC included the payment of salaries as and when due, creation of the Office of the Special Adviser on Labour Matters, a 50 per cent reduction in institutional fees and other infrastructural developments.
Despite its commendation of the administration, the labour union called for further action on issues affecting workers.
The TUC appealed to Governor Sani to approve the implementation of consequential adjustments for core civil servants.
It also renewed its demand for the reinstatement of 83 workers of KADIRS, KASUPDA and other government agencies who were allegedly wrongfully disengaged in 2019.
According to the union, the affected workers took their case to the National Industrial Court in Kaduna, which determined the matter in their favour.
The labour centre said the situation had become particularly urgent because 13 of the 83 affected workers have died since their disengagement.
“We appeal for the reinstatement of 83 staff of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA), etc., out of which 13 of them have died,” the TUC said.
The union urged the state government to address the matter in the interest of justice and fairness.
“As a law-abiding labour centre, we remain committed to peaceful and constructive cooperation with the administration of Senator Dr. Comrade Uba Sani, CON, and all relevant authorities in the interest of justice, fairness, and inclusive governance,” the communiqué stated.
The union reaffirmed its support for industrial harmony and its commitment to constructive engagement with the Kaduna State Government.
