The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the management of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic (AAP), Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, for transparency and integrity in the administration of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and commitment to students welfare.
The commendation came when the national leadership of the student body, led by Secretary General, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, paid a courtesy visit to the institution on Thursday.
According to a statement sent to Daily Sun on Friday and signed by Uthman, the visit was part of NANS National Secretariat’s continued efforts to strengthen institutional engagement, promote students’ welfare, and foster constructive relationships between students leadership and tertiary institution management across the country.
He said the delegation was received by the Students’ Union President, Comrade Khalifah, and other union executives, as well as the institution’s management led by the Rector, Dr. M.A. Onasanya.
“The engagement provided an avenue for the NANS National Secretariat to interact directly with the institution’s management and student representatives on a number of issues affecting students and the smooth running of the institution.
“Extensive deliberations were held on matters bordering on students’ welfare, security of lives and property of our members, academic environment, institutional development, and other issues of mutual concern.
“The Secretary General also commended the management for its transparency, accountability and integrity in the administration of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
“He expressed satisfaction that the Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu Igbo was not among the institutions implicated in the misappropriation or diversion of students’ loan disbursements, describing the institution’s handling of the scheme as exemplary.

“He appreciated the management for ensuring that beneficiaries received their entitlements accordingly, noting that such transparency strengthens students’ confidence in institutional governance and the credibility of government intervention programmes,” the statement reads in part.
He added that the Comrade Babatunde Akinteye-led NANS administration prioritises optimum students’ welfare, noting that effective representation “must go beyond rhetoric to include meaningful engagements, intervention, partnership and practical solutions.”
The statement disclosed that at the end of deliberations, both parties agreed on a pathway for further collaboration to ensure students’ concerns are addressed through dialogue and responsible advocacy.
Responding, Dr. Onasanya thanked NANS for the engagement and reaffirmed the polytechnic’s commitment to students’ welfare, infrastructural development, security and academic excellence.
As part of the visit, NANS decorated the Rector as a NANS National Ambassador Against Social Vices in recognition of his leadership in promoting a disciplined and responsible student community.
“The honour further underscores the shared responsibility of stakeholders in combating social vices and creating a safer and more conducive environment for learning.
“The NANS National Secretariat maintains that optimum students’ welfare remains a priority of the BabTee-led NANS administration, and that effective student representation must go beyond rhetoric to include meaningful engagements, intervention, partnership and practical solutions to challenges confronting students.
“NANS commends the management and student leaders of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic for their warm reception and openness throughout the engagement, while expressing optimism that the visit will further deepen the relationship between the institution and the apex students’ body,” the statement further reads.
