The Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter, has directed hotel owners, event planners, and other stakeholders in Abuja’s entertainment industry to obtain permits before engaging live music bands or risk sanctions.
The acting governor of the association, Michael Oyibo Kaycee, issued the warning during a press conference at the weekend in Abuja.
Kaycee stressed that operators must comply with industry standards by engaging only certified musicians and fulfilling all obligations to performers.

He added that the association would no longer tolerate exploitation, disrespect, or underpayment of musicians in the nation’s capital.
“You are required to obey industrial standards, engage certified musicians, and fulfil your obligations. Our task force is fully operational from today. The system has been taken for granted for too long,” he said.
He further stated that show promoters and event planners must seek clearance from the association before hosting live band performances.
The PMAN boss also raised concerns over the sharp decline in television viewership, describing it as “extremely low” in the face of rapid digital transformation.
“Today, virtually everyone carries a television in their hands. A young person in a remote area can gain global recognition through digital influence. This shows that digital platforms now dominate content distribution,” he noted.
Kaycee, however, called on the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to urgently intervene in addressing the challenges facing musicians and the association in Abuja.
