Some schools and parents have demanded for a review of the recently released results of the Computer-Based 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The schools alleged glitches during the marking process in some specific subjects, which affected the grades of their students and thus demanded for its review.

Likewise, some parents questioned the results of their wards and lodged complaints to their schools seeking answers.

The Nigeria Head of National Office (HNO), West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Dr. Amos Dangut, insisted there were no issues with the 2026 released CB-WASSCE results.

Daily Sun learnt some schools wrote HNO and called for a review of their WASSCE results.

It was gathered that parents are mounting pressure on the schools to reach out to WAEC and seek a review of the school exam results.

Two popular schools in Oyo and Ogun states confirmed that parents raised issues with the WASSCE results of their wards.

The schools observed that their brilliant students, who were expected to make good grades, scored C in some subjects.

“Our bright students are downcast with the outcome of the results. These students from JSS 1 have dominated their classes including the mock exams and junior WAEC.

“Specifically, in the junior WAEC, many of them cleared the examination and in the senior classes, they have been outstanding. We expected a good grade from them. But we suspect glitches their marks,” an official of one of the schools told Daily Sun.

Another school in Abuja known for its students’ performance in the school exam told our Correspondent that they suspect software glitches affected the grades of their students.

The head of science section in the school disclosed that some parents have complained to the school authority about the performance of their children.

She noted: “The school expected a good outing from our students. The results were discouraging and some parents expressed concern about the situation.”

In Lagos, some of the schools whose students wrote the computer-based exam have raised questions about the grades obtained by the SS 111 students.

Also, in a particular school located at Ikotun, parents demanding answers from the school authority about the performance of their children who they expected to make good grades but ended up with lower grades.

Journalists are not left out, some lodged complaints to their colleagues that covers the Education beat over their wards grades.

Parents react

A parent, Mr. Lekan Sogunle, told our Correspondent that he encouraged his daughter’s school to write a petition to WAEC demanding for a review of the results.

Sogunle said his daughter dominated her class from JSS 1 to SS 111, recorded an outstanding result in junior WAEC, won prizes in Inter-school competitions and was the valedictorian of the school and that the CB-WASSCE grades are unacceptable.

“My daughter is a science student and very good at science subjects. Her school has good science teachers with track records of outstanding performance of their students in WASSCE and science competitions. Some of us are demanding answers from WAEC,” Sogunle added.

Another parent, Alhaja Ramota Sadiku, questioned the English and Maths result of his son based on his outstanding performance from the junior class to the senior class.

Sadiku disclosed that he called the school to demand for answers and that it is the same complaint on the school platform with calls for the school to request for review of the results.

Online, several students and parents also demanded for an explanation from WAEC. Basically, their complaints centered on English and Maths.

Some outrightly rejected their grades but felt short of asking for a review of the results. Most of them are science students hoping to study related science courses in the universities.

Daily Sun gathered that some Concerned Schools, Parents, Educators, and Stakeholders sent a petition to the WAEC Head of National Office, Dr. Dangut, to review the CB-WASSCE results

The petition reads: “Following the release of the results, many schools that participated in the computer-based examinations have observed unusually poor performances, especially in core subjects such as English Language and Mathematics.

“These outcomes are inconsistent with the academic records, mock examination performances, and overall preparedness of many candidates who sat for the examinations.”

The group demands WAEC conduct a comprehensive and independent audit of the computer-based examination process, particularly for English Language and Mathematics, adding that a review of the scoring, transmission, processing, and collation mechanisms used during the CBT examinations.”

“We believe that a thorough review is necessary not only to uphold the confidence of candidates, parents, and schools in the WAEC examination system but also to protect the futures of thousands of students whose academic and career opportunities may be negatively impacted by any unresolved errors.

“We trust that WAEC will give this matter the urgent attention it deserves and take all necessary steps to ensure that justice, fairness, and transparency prevail,” the group argued.

More schools and candidates have queried the released CB-WASSCE results. Daily Sun gathered that some sent letters for review of their students’ results.

A principal of one of the concerned schools told Daily Sun that those affected are students who wrote the computer-based WASSCE. He observed the students are brilliant and they were confident of good outing in the school exam.

“We hope WAEC will listen and do the needful like the former JAMB Registrar did last year when candidates complained about their UTME results. He ordered for a review and acknowledged that errors were made, which were later corrected,” he argued.

Meanwhile, another group has issued a 14-day ultimatum to WAEC to review results of the 2026 CB-WASSCE or face court action.

The group, Initiative for School Excellence and Education Foundation asked WAEC to preserve examination records, give affected candidates access to their electronic records and subject the computer-based examination and result-processing systems to independent verification.

The Chief Executive Officer of EduCare, Alex Onyia, posted on X the letter from the group’s lawyers. He was among those who raised concerns about the results after the council announced the release.

WAEC position

The HNO in a text sent to our Correspondent said: “We don’t have any glitch in processing of candidates results. Just as in all academic institutions, dissatisfied schools may wish to apply for a review of the marking.”

According to him, 1,687,378 candidates, representing 86.50 percent, recorded credits in five subjects with or without English and Mathematics.
