You’ve had an impressive career in the pharmaceutical industry, and your role as a co-founder of Alltymz Pharmacy really stands out. Can you tell us what motivated you to start this venture?

Thank you! It’s a pleasure to be here. The motivation behind Alltymz Pharmacy was very personal and, at the same time, community-driven. After working for years in the pharmaceutical field, I saw firsthand the challenges people faced in accessing quality, affordable healthcare, especially in areas where resources are limited. I wanted to bridge that gap, create a place where people could find the medications and health support they need, and ultimately make healthcare more accessible. The idea of providing something impactful for the community – something beyond just a business – was a major driving force for me.

That’s very inspiring. What kind of vision did you have when you set out to create Alltymz Pharmacy? Were there specific goals you wanted to achieve from the start?

Absolutely. From day one, we wanted Alltymz to be a trusted healthcare destination in Port Harcourt, not just another pharmacy. I envisioned a place that was more than a spot to pick up prescriptions – I wanted it to be a health hub for the community, where people felt comfortable and supported. Our goals were focused on affordability, quality, and education. We aimed to provide a range of healthcare services like health screenings and wellness sessions, which would help educate people on preventative health. We also wanted to expand access to specialty medications, something that was lacking in our area. It was important to me that we took a holistic approach, offering both traditional pharmacy services and a supportive healthcare environment.

It sounds like Alltymz was founded on a truly community-centric philosophy. What were some of the first steps you took to turn that vision into reality?

To be honest, the journey began with building the right team and partnerships. We knew that to make Alltymz successful, we needed people who shared our passion for community health. After setting up the foundational structure, we focused on forming strategic partnerships, especially with Health maintenance organizations (HMOs) such as NEM Health Limited and  AXA Mansard, a leading Health Maintenance Organization in Nigeria. That partnership helped us expand our services and access a larger customer base, which in turn allowed us to grow sustainably. We also invested in robust supply chain processes to ensure that we could deliver medications efficiently and reliably. Our commitment to quality and reliability was crucial, as building trust with the community required a high level of service from the outset.

Partnerships play such a crucial role in scaling a business. How did the collaboration with AXA Mansard contribute to the growth of Alltymz Pharmacy?

Partnering with AXA Mansard was a game-changer. Not only did it provide us with a steady customer base, but it also allowed us to offer comprehensive healthcare packages to our clients. Through AXA Mansard, we were able to extend healthcare coverage to people who might not have been able to afford it otherwise. This partnership gave us credibility and visibility, but more importantly, it aligned with our mission to make healthcare accessible. It was also instrumental in our revenue growth; in fact, it helped us increase revenue by an impressive 500% over three years. The partnership was mutually beneficial and allowed us to amplify our impact while strengthening our financial foundation.

Five hundred percent growth is incredible! Alongside this growth, I understand that you expanded Alltymz’s services quite significantly. Could you tell us more about the decision to branch into specialty medications and community outreach programs?

Sure. Our decision to include specialty medications and compounding services stemmed from our desire to serve patients with specific needs that weren’t being met. There were many cases where people had to travel far for certain medications or for custom prescriptions. We wanted to bring these specialized services to them, right in their community. The expansion into this high-margin segment wasn’t just about increasing revenue – although it certainly helped us achieve that – it was primarily about creating a one-stop solution for our customers’ needs. As for the community outreach, it’s something I’ve always believed in deeply. We worked with FHi 360 to offer HIV testing services(HTS) as well as antiretroviral therapy (ART) refill to people living with HIV. Additionally, by holding health screenings and educational sessions, we were able to provide preventive care and create stronger relationships with our customers. It was a win-win: we helped the community stay healthier and they, in turn, trusted us as their healthcare partner.

Community outreach must have brought some unique challenges, though. How did you manage to consistently grow your customer base while conducting these programs?

You’re absolutely right; community outreach required careful planning and resources. But the results were worth it. Each health screening or educational session was an opportunity to show our commitment to the community. Over time, word spread, and people began to see Alltymz as a place that genuinely cared for their well-being. We grew our customer base annually, which I believe was a direct result of our commitment to these outreach efforts. We built partnerships with local healthcare providers and hospitals to support these initiatives, which also enhanced our credibility and allowed us to reach a broader audience. Consistent outreach established us as a trusted health partner, which is essential in a field like pharmacy where trust and reliability are everything.

How do you manage the supply chain and operational efficiency of Alltymz?

My knowledge and experience in inventory management was invaluable. From the start, I knew that maintaining an efficient supply chain would be essential for providing consistent service and avoiding stockouts, which can be critical in a pharmacy setting. We focused on reducing lead times and building strong relationships with suppliers. Through streamlined operations, we achieved a 30% reduction in lead times and brought our on-time delivery rate up to 99%. These improvements helped us ensure that we always had the right products available for our customers when they needed them, which was crucial for building our reputation. Effective supply chain management has a direct impact on customer satisfaction, and for us, it was a cornerstone of sustainable growth.

It sounds like you’ve built a very resilient operation. I’m curious about the broader impact of Alltymz on the local community in Port Harcourt. Could you share more about that?

Absolutely. For me, seeing Alltymz grow isn’t just about business success; it’s about the difference we’re making in people’s lives. In Port Harcourt, access to healthcare can sometimes be limited, so by expanding our services, we provided not just medications but a more comprehensive healthcare solution. We’ve created jobs, forged strong partnerships, and supported people in managing their health through education. I’m proud to say that many people now turn to us not just for prescriptions but for trusted healthcare advice. We’ve become part of the community fabric, and that’s incredibly fulfilling. Our presence has made healthcare more accessible and has fostered a sense of trust that I think will have a lasting impact on the community.

Looking back, what has been the most rewarding part of your journey with Alltymz Pharmacy?

Without a doubt, the most rewarding part has been the relationships we’ve built and the lives we’ve impacted. I’ve seen customers who have been with us since day one – people who come back because they know they’re receiving not only quality products but also genuine care. Knowing that Alltymz has grown to become a healthcare destination that people rely on, and that we’ve helped improve access to health in our community, gives me a tremendous sense of pride. Every time we help someone manage a chronic condition or educate someone on health matters, it reminds me of why we started Alltymz in the first place.

Lastly, what advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs, especially those looking to make an impact in the healthcare sector?

My advice would be to stay rooted in your purpose. If you’re in healthcare, understand that trust is paramount, and everything you do should be in service of building that trust. Focus on understanding the community you want to serve, and always align your goals with their needs. In healthcare, people are looking for authenticity, so be genuine in your mission to help them. Also, partnerships are incredibly important. Find organizations that align with your vision and can support you as you grow. And finally, be flexible and open to innovation. Healthcare is a field that evolves constantly, so staying adaptable will help you not only survive but thrive.
