North-Eastern University, Gombe, has approved salary increases ranging from 40 per cent to 65 per cent for all categories of staff, effective immediately.
The university, formerly known as Pen Resource University, announced the latest salary review in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Mukhtar Sani Saulawa, on Monday.
According to the institution, the latest adjustment is the third major salary intervention approved by its Pro-Chancellor and Founder, Dr Sani Jauro, within three years.
The university said it previously implemented a salary increase of up to 35 per cent in October 2023, followed by another 20 per cent increase after its performance in the October 2024 National Universities Commission accreditation exercise.
It said all programmes presented during the 2024 accreditation exercise received full accreditation, with an aggregate score of 91.4 per cent.
The university said the latest salary increase was independently approved by the founder as part of his commitment to staff welfare and the development of the institution.
The decision comes as the university prepares for its maiden convocation after graduating its pioneer set of students.
Explaining the rationale behind the continued salary reviews, Jauro said his experience as a university lecturer and former member of the Academic Staff Union of Universities informed his approach to staff welfare.
“I was a member of ASUU as far back as 1989, so I know the pains and pleasure of being a University Lecturer,” he said, adding that education was also part of his family legacy.
The university said the successive salary adjustments were intended to recognise staff commitment, reward excellence and support efforts to attract and retain quality personnel.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Yusuph Amuda Yahaya, described the latest increase as a demonstration of confidence in the university’s workforce and its future.
“The success of a university is ultimately measured by the quality of the people who teach, support and sustain it,” Yahaya said.
The university also announced a further 20 per cent salary increase for all categories of staff of Pen Resource Academy, its nursery, primary and secondary school arm.
The institution said the latest interventions formed part of its broader investment in human capital as it continues to expand its academic and institutional operations.
